The Docudrama Film “Lady Of The Desert”

“More Women Have Been Killed By Grief Than Men Have Been Killed In War.”

The 2010 docu-fiction film Lady of the Desert tells the story of an Afghan woman who migrates to Iran at the age of eight. As the years pass, her life unfolds through displacement, forced marriage, and years of silence. Growing older and raising a family, she faces discrimination, poverty, and invisibility because of her status as a migrant, while remaining beyond the reach of social support and human rights organizations.

Lady of the Desert is a portrait of life at the margins and an attempt to give voice to women whose experiences have remained unseen and unheard.

Directed by Atefeh Farhangikia and produced by Rayka Cultural and Artistic Institute, the film has been screened at numerous international festivals and cultural networks, where it has received recognition and awards.
