Fictional documentary film “Layover” narrates a story addressing the Ukraine International Airlines Flight ps-752 which was a scheduled civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Kiev, operated by Ukraine International Airlines, On 8
January 2020. The plane was shot down while flying the route by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shortly after takeoff and all 176 people aboard were killed. This film deals with the life story of one the families inside
the mentioned plane, alongside approaching the background theme of Iranian diaspora.
The film uses and is based on reconstruction, interviews and archives.
Due to the security conditions in Iran and the arrest of artists and filmmakers, the principal members of the production team were never publicly credited. For many years, at festivals and screenings, only the names of director and line producer Atefeh Farhangikia and Mahmoud Zibaei appeared in connection with the film.
The film received numerous recognitions and awards internationally. Among its most notable achievements was its nomination for Best Documentary Feature at the Universal Film Festival.
